Hello, movie enthusiasts! Fasten your seatbelts, because we are entering the thrilling realm of Kuberaa, the new pan-Indian blockbuster that is taking the world by storm. As a die-hard cinema fan, I couldn’t be more excited to dissect the Day 1 box office collections of this DhanushNagarjuna starrer, directed by the genius Sekhar Kammula.

Released on June 20, 2025, Kuberaa took over theaters, and the figures are in—let’s see how this crime thriller lit up the box office on opening day, region-wise, and why it’s looking to be a game-changer in Indian cinema.

Kuberaa launched with a bang, collecting an astounding ₹14.75 crore net on opening day in India, as per initial Sacnilk estimates. Where did it all take place, then? Let’s analyze by region to determine how this socio-political thriller fared across India and worldwide.

Telugu-Speaking States (Andhra Pradesh & Telangana): The Telugu version of Kuberaa was the real MVP, dominating the show with a stunning 57.36% occupancy rate. Hyderabad was the hub of activity, with a staggering 67% occupancy, night shows touching 88% on 530 screens. The film earned around ₹10 crore net in these states, thanks to Nagarjuna’s star power and Sekhar Kammula’s home-turf advantage.

Tamil Nadu: In Dhanush’s home state, Kuberaa raked in a solid ₹4.5 crore net, with occupancy averaging 33.73%. Chennai led the way, especially for night shows, which touched 89% occupancy. But the Tamil version could not match Telugu passion, possibly due to lower pre-release hype.

Karnataka: The movie raked in ₹1.7 crore gross in Karnataka, Dhanush’s second-best opener in the region. The Kannada version, however, saw a weak 6.54% occupancy, which also reflects a weaker pull.

Hindi Belt: With Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par as competition, the Hindi version of Kuberaa managed a 6.73% occupancy, contributing approximately ₹0.23 crore net to the Day 1 figure. Night shows were slightly better, at just above 10%.

Other Territories (Malayalam, etc.): The Malayalam version did not impress with a 2.32% occupancy, adding very little to the overall tally.

Worldwide, Kuberaa earned an estimated ₹27.5 crore on Day 1, the majority of which came from North America, which we’ll discuss later. All of these figures indicate that although Kuberaa opened to respectable numbers, it’s the international markets and Telugu markets that are propelling its success in the early days.

As an avid moviegoer, I know how important it is to stick to real facts, particularly when it comes to box office figures—no one needs a producer on their doorstep! The following are some records Kuberaa broke on its opening day.

Fifth Highest Tollywood Opener in 2025: Kuberaa’s ₹14.75 crore net India total was the fifth-highest opening day for a Telugu movie in 2025.

Dhanush’s Biggest Career Opener: With a net of ₹14.75 crore, Kuberaa is now Dhanush’s biggest Day 1 collection in India and worldwide with ₹27.5 crore gross.

Nagarjuna’s Biggest Opener: Kuberaa also becomes Nagarjuna’s biggest opening worldwide and in India, beating his previous high, Bangarraju in 2022, a reflection of his consistent popularity across Telugu states.

Karnataka’s Second-Best Opener for Dhanush: The movie earned ₹1.7 crore in Karnataka, Dhanush’s second-best opening in the state after Raayan, which opened with ₹2.2 crore gross.

Blockbuster North American Opening: Kuberaa made more than $800K in the USA on Day 1 and is expected to bring in $1 million on Day 2—a performance we’ll discuss more below. This is the biggest Day 1 number for Dhanush in North America.

Day 1 of Kuberaa’s campaign is a strong start to what is turning out to be a massive campaign.

On Day 2, Kuberaa showed its true colors, particularly in Telugu-speaking states, where it performed better than its Tamil counterpart. BookMyShow figures indicated that the Telugu version of the film registered a substantial hike in ticket sales, indicating positive word-of-mouth for the film.

In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Day 2 advance bookings were 30-40% higher than Day 1, with Hyderabad theaters almost house-full for night and evening shows. Second-day shows in Telugu states registered house-full occupancy levels, touching 70-80% in major centers like Hyderabad and Vijayawada.

Conversely, Tamil Nadu ticket demand on BookMyShow gathered momentum gradually, with Chennai having steady evening show attendance (about 60% occupancy) but other towns trailing behind. Overall occupancy of the Tamil version on Day 2 was estimated at 40-45%, compared to 65-70% for Telugu. The difference indicates Nagarjuna and Sekhar Kammula’s greater pull in Telugu centers and the darker storyline drawing in more of those viewers.

BookMyShow’s Day 2 pre-sales in Karnataka also rose to ₹76 lakh, a sign of health for the weekend. As a fan, I’m excited to see Kuberaa picking up steam, but it’s apparent the Telugu belt is where the fireworks are really going off.

Let’s discuss Kuberaa’s incredible box office success in North America, where it’s breaking records for Dhanush. The movie made $335,393 through 7 PM PST on Day 1 from 350 theaters, with projections placing it over $800K for the day.

On Day 2, it was well on its way to crossing $1 million, with projections of $1.4-1.5 million for the opening weekend. Kuberaa then becomes Dhanush’s top-grossing movie in North America, surpassing his previous record-breaker, Raayan.

It’s also set to be his first movie to break both $1 million and potentially $2 million in the territory—a huge milestone for the Tamil legend.

The buzz in the USA is real, fueled by Dhanush’s groundbreaking performance as a beggar with a photographic memory and the scorching socio-political themes of the film.

Thanks to unanimous positive word-of-mouth, sparked by the trailer and effusive reviews, walk-ins were driven, particularly for evening shows. As an international cinema geek, I’m thrilled to see Dhanush reach new heights in North America, reasserting his cross-cultural appeal. This is not merely a victory for him—it’s an Indian cinema moment to be proud of on the global stage.

Alright, let’s get serious—Kuberaa is blazing, and it has blockbuster written all over it! With a worldwide total of ₹27 crore on Day 1 and robust Day 2 advance bookings, the movie is set to collect ₹40 crore or more during its opening weekend. The word-of-mouth is unstoppable—fans on X are hailing it as “the best film of 2025,” applauding Dhanush’s National Award-worthy performance, Nagarjuna’s stoic charm, and Rashmika Mandanna‘s emotional depth.

The movie’s ability to balance action, drama, and social commentary, all woven into Sekhar Kammula’s tight storytelling, is winning hearts left and right.

Trade analysts foresee Kuberaa reaching ₹120 crore gross worldwide to be viable, and it is already halfway there in a couple of days. With no major Tamil and Telugu market clashes and gathering pace in North America, this film is a runaway train. As a film geek, I’m hoping for Kuberaa to continue soaring—it’s the sort of bold, big cinema that deserves to shine.

Kuberaa is not just a film; it’s a triumph of storytelling and star power coming together to create something that will be remembered for a very long time. From its ₹14.75 crore opening in India to its record-breaking success in North America, this film shows that Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Sekhar Kammula are not to be underestimated.

On a personal level, I am thrilled to see people praising Dhanush for his bold choice of character and incredible performance. He deserves all the love he is receiving from the audience; his performance was truly moving.

As a movie buff, I’m beyond excited to see where this ride takes us—whether it’s shattering more box office records or receiving critical acclaim, Kuberaa is a movie to watch. So, grab your tickets, book on BookMyShow, and join the hype train. Let’s celebrate this cinematic gem together!
